Here’s the thing about Chilliwack weddings: they’re different. I’m not talking about “nice backdrop” different. I’m talking about the kind of raw, stunning beauty that makes couples stop mid-ceremony and just breathe it all in. After 17 years photographing weddings across the Fraser Valley, Lauren and I have learned that Chilliwack isn’t just a place to get married. It’s where mountain peaks, river valleys, and farm fields become the backdrop to your once-in-a-lifetime story.
From the moment you drive into Chilliwack, you’re surrounded by options. Mount Cheam dominates the skyline, the Chilliwack River cuts through ancient forests, and hidden lakes tucked along Chilliwack Lake Road offer privacy most couples only dream about. We live on Harrison Lake just outside Chilliwack, so trust me when I say we know these locations like the back of our hands. We’ve shot in freezing rain, summer smoke, and everything in between. That’s what makes Chilliwack wedding photography so special. It’s unpredictable, authentic, and absolutely worth it.
Let’s be honest: when people think Fraser Valley weddings, they usually think Abbotsford or Langley first. But those of us who live and work in the eastern Fraser Valley know better. Chilliwack offers something unique: a blend of accessibility and wilderness that’s hard to find anywhere else in Greater Vancouver.
Mount Cheam isn’t just a mountain. It’s the mountain. That iconic peak shows up in photos from Bridal Falls to Fraser River Lodge, from Cultus Lake to the Cheam Wetlands. When couples tell us they want epic backdrops, this is what we’re talking about. Not just mountains in the distance, but peaks that frame your ceremony, your portraits, and your first kiss as a married couple.
The Vedder River is family-friendly with playgrounds and coffee trucks, but walk five minutes down a trail and you’ll find quiet pockets where it’s just you, the water, and the mountains. Chilliwack Lake? Absolute magic. We’ve done adventure sessions there at sunset with barefoot couples and wind-blown hair, and every single time it feels like we’re the only people on earth.
This isn’t cookie-cutter wedding venue territory. Chilliwack is home to barn weddings at Hazel Creek Farms, lakeside ceremonies at Bridlewoods Event Center, and mountain-view receptions at Fraser River Lodge. Every venue has its own vibe, and every couple finds something that feels just like them.
We’ve photographed hundreds of weddings in this area, and honestly, the locations never get old. Here are the spots that keep winning awards and blowing our couples away.
Chilliwack Lake Road is a photographer’s dream. The further you drive, the more spectacular it gets: towering trees, mountain views, and if you time it right, absolutely no one else around.
Bridlewoods Event Center sits right on this road, nestled in the forest with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the outside in. We love this venue because you get the rustic elegance inside and epic outdoor ceremony space with mountain backdrops. Plus, the bridal suite has incredible natural light for getting-ready photos, which is a huge deal for us.
But here’s the secret: the real magic happens when you venture beyond the venues. There are fields along Chilliwack Lake Road where you can see Mount Cheam perfectly framed in the background. We’ve shot couples in cornfields at sunset with that mountain just sitting there like it’s part of the wedding party. No joke, those photos win awards.
If you want truly remote, Jones Lake is where it’s at. Also known as Wahleach Lake, this spot sits at over 600 meters elevation with massive glacier views looking south. The drive up the logging road is an adventure itself, rough and steep, but absolutely worth it for couples who want something wild and untouched.
We’ve photographed engagement sessions at Jones Lake with massive tree stumps, pristine alpine water, and mountain peaks that make you feel like you’re in another world. The camping sites along the lake offer sandy beaches and views that belong on postcards. After shooting at Bridal Falls, we often drive couples deeper into Chilliwack to Jones Lake for that remote feel with mountains and glaciers dominating every frame.
This isn’t a spot for everyone. The road requires careful driving, there’s zero cell service, and you need to be comfortable with wilderness. But for adventurous couples who want elopement photos that no one else has, Jones Lake delivers every single time. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s unforgettable.
Fraser River Lodge is hands-down one of our favourite venues in the entire Fraser Valley. Why? Because it has everything. The Fraser River runs right past the property, Mount Cheam provides a jaw-dropping backdrop, and the venue itself offers indoor and outdoor ceremony options.
We’ve photographed so many weddings here, and every time we find new angles. The dyke walk with river and mountain views? Perfection. The log main entrance? Rustic charm for days. And when you have 18 acres to work with, you never run out of creative possibilities.
The Fraser River Lodge team gets it, too. They’re professional, flexible, and they understand that great wedding photos need time and space. Whether you’re doing an intimate elopement for two or a full reception for 200, this venue delivers.
The Vedder River is where Chilliwack locals go to relax, and it’s one of the most versatile locations we recommend to couples. There are playgrounds for kids, walking trails through the trees, little beaches along the water, and mountain views everywhere you look.
What makes Vedder River special for wedding photography is the variety. You can shoot by the water with mountains in the background, walk into the forest for intimate portraits under the trees, or head to the open fields for that golden hour glow. And because there are so many access points, you’re never competing with crowds, even on summer weekends.
We photographed an elopement here once where the couple exchanged vows on the riverbank, surrounded by just a handful of people, and then had a backyard pizza party afterward. It was folksy, intimate, and totally them. That’s what Vedder River does: it lets you be yourself.
Cultus Lake is the spot for couples who want lakefront beauty without sacrificing convenience. You’ve got beaches with parking close by (huge when you’re in a wedding dress), mountain views surrounding the lake, and enough quiet spots that you can escape the main beach crowds.
We’ve done everything from summer weddings with outdoor farm receptions at nearby Chestnut Springs to winter elopements in December with sketchy weather that somehow turned magical. Cultus Lake is forgiving that way. Even when conditions aren’t perfect, the location still delivers.
One of our favourite shots from a Cultus Lake wedding was taken at sunset with the couple standing at the water’s edge, mountains reflected in the lake behind them. It was simple, beautiful, and totally worth the drive out there for portraits after their ceremony.
If you want something different, and I mean really different, Cheam Wetlands is your spot. Wooden boardwalks wind through the wetlands, giving you access to forests, water, and mountain views all in one location.
The magic happens when fog rolls in low over the wetlands. It creates this moody, emotive atmosphere that’s perfect for couples who want something a little more artistic. We’ve seen weddings here with barn receptions nearby, and the contrast between the rustic barn and the wild wetlands makes for an unforgettable portfolio.
This isn’t a crowded tourist spot. It’s a local gem that most people overlook. Which is exactly why we love it for intimate weddings and adventure sessions.
Bridal Falls is one of those locations that’s tricky but so worth it. Waterfalls are tough to shoot. There’s water spraying everywhere, the light is often harsh, and you’re usually surrounded by tourists. But with the right couple and the right approach, waterfall engagement photos can be absolutely epic.
We photographed a session at Bridal Falls where the couple was willing to get a little wet, and the results were some of our favourite Fraser Valley engagement photos. After Bridal Falls, we drove deeper into Chilliwack to Jones Lake for that remote, apocalyptic feel with massive tree stumps and mountains in the distance. That combination, waterfall drama plus mountain wilderness, is pure Chilliwack.
Let me tell you about some of the weddings that remind us why we love this work.
November weddings in Chilliwack are moody: dark, rainy, foggy, classic Fraser Valley weather. This couple built a wooden arch in their backyard forest, pressure-washed the trees (yes, really), and created extra parking for their 30 guests. Everything about their day was hands-on and personal.
When the ceremony started, it was pouring rain. Guests stood casually among the ferns with umbrellas, no formal seating, just a warm gathering of family and friends. The Chilliwack rainforest provided the decor: vibrant fall leaves still clinging to branches, towering trees wrapped in mist, and that soft diffused light that makes everything look dreamlike.
As Fraser Valley wedding photographers, we live for moments like these. The couple’s laughter, the understated charm, the trust they placed in us to make the forest shine despite the gloom. That’s what real wedding photography is about.
Here’s something most couples don’t think about until it’s too late: Chilliwack weather is unpredictable. November through March? Rain and fog are basically guaranteed. Summer? Wildfire smoke can roll in and change everything.
That’s why our advanced off-camera lighting skills are non-negotiable. We don’t just hope for good natural light. We bring our own. Whether it’s backlighting a couple in the mist, adding drama to a night reception, or balancing sunset flare with mountain backdrops, we make sure you look stunning no matter what nature throws at us.
At a recent rainy backyard wedding, clear umbrellas let in natural light while keeping the couple dry, and we used off-camera lighting to make sure every detail was perfectly captured. That’s the difference between a photographer who panics when it rains and one who sees rain as just another creative opportunity.
Night wedding photos bring a unique drama that daytime shots just can’t match. Imagine string lights glowing against a dark sky, sparkler exits with mountain silhouettes in the background, or intimate portraits under lanterns by the Fraser River.
We use advanced off-camera lighting to ensure every night shot is perfectly illuminated without losing the natural beauty of the scene. Backlighting creates romantic silhouettes, uplighting highlights architectural features or natural landscapes, and sparklers add a celebratory feel.
Chilliwack venues like Fraser River Lodge and Bridlewoods have gorgeous outdoor spaces that come alive at night, and we know exactly how to capture them.
If you’re planning a Chilliwack wedding, here’s what we recommend based on 17 years and 450+ weddings:
Trust your photographer’s location scouting. We live in this area. We know where the light hits at golden hour, which trails are accessible in wedding attire, and where you can find privacy even on busy weekends.
Build in time for portraits. Chilliwack locations are stunning, but they’re also spread out. If you want portraits at Cultus Lake, Vedder River, and Bridal Falls, we need to plan logistics.
Embrace the weather. Rain, fog, smoke. We’ve shot in all of it, and some of our most award-winning photos happened in terrible weather. Trust us to make it work.
Consider a two-photographer team. Lauren and I work together on every wedding, and it makes a huge difference. One of us is up front catching every laugh and glance, while the other is roaming for technical shots and candid moments that disappear in a blink.
Here’s a quick rundown of our favourite Chilliwack wedding venues and why they work so well for photography:

Each of these venues offers something unique, and we’ve photographed at most of them multiple times. We know the best photo spots, the lighting challenges, and how to maximize your time.
Not every couple wants a big wedding, and honestly, Chilliwack is perfect for elopements.
We offer Fraser Valley elopement packages that include location scouting, professional photography, lighting assistance, and optional add-ons like officiants, helicopter rides, or off-road vehicle access to mountaintop locations. Imagine waking up in a rental on Harrison Lake, driving to a sunrise ceremony at Chilliwack Lake or Jones Lake, and having the entire wilderness to yourselves.
We’ve done helicopter elopements to snowy peaks, waterfall elopements at Bridal Falls, and intimate ceremonies on the Vedder River with just two witnesses. Every elopement is different, and every couple gets a personalized experience that feels authentic to them.
After 17 years, 450+ weddings, and 7 Fearless Photographer Awards, we’ve learned a few things. But here’s what really matters:
We’re locals. We live on Harrison Lake. We know Chilliwack, the Fraser Valley, and every hidden gem worth photographing.
We’re weather-proof. Rain, fog, smoke, snow. We’ve mastered them all with advanced lighting techniques that guarantee stunning photos no matter what.
We’re storytellers. Photojournalistic approach, candid moments, real emotion. That’s what we capture.
We’re a team. Will and Lauren work together on every wedding, ensuring comprehensive coverage and nothing missed.
We care deeply. For us, this isn’t just a job. It’s about the couples we meet, the moments we witness, and the relationships we build.
