For couples dreaming of a relaxed coastal celebration surrounded by the people they love most, a West Coast Wilderness Lodge wedding offers an unforgettable experience. This beautiful couple chose the lodge for its rustic character, sweeping inlet views, on-site cabins, and the opportunity to turn their wedding into a complete Sunshine Coast destination wedding.
With guests travelling from the Lower Mainland, across Canada, and as far as Guam, they wanted a place that felt scenic, welcoming, and easy for everyone to enjoy. Located in Egmont, BC, West Coast Wilderness Lodge provides a memorable setting for a wedding weekend, with intimate accommodations at the lodge and additional nearby places for guests to stay within walking distance. The venue’s decks, dining spaces, and wilderness setting make it a beautiful choice for couples looking for an ocean-view celebration on BC’s coast.
A Rustic Wedding Venue on the Sunshine Coast
As a rustic wedding venue on the Sunshine Coast, West Coast Wilderness Lodge has so much character to work with. The cabins, timber details, surrounding forest, and waterfront decks all create a setting that feels relaxed, elevated, and distinctly West Coast.
This is the kind of lodge wedding venue that gives couples and their guests more than one day to celebrate. Instead of everyone arriving, attending the wedding, and heading home, the lodge creates space for a full weekend getaway: shared meals, ocean views, walks through the property, and time together before and after the wedding itself.
For anyone searching for an Egmont BC wedding venue or an intimate wedding venue in British Columbia, it is easy to see why this spot is so special. It is private, scenic, and full of variety without requiring couples to travel away from their guests or venue for beautiful portraits.
Getting Ready in the Cabins
The couple’s wedding day arrived with sunshine and clear skies, in other words, a perfect summer wedding in British Columbia. We began photographing their day in separate cabins, documenting the them getting ready and hanging out with their closest friends and family before the celebrations began.
They wanted to complete their first look and couple portraits before the ceremony so they could fully enjoy cocktail hour, dinner, and the evening with their guests. We found a quiet and beautiful location near the cabins for their first look, creating space for them to take a breath together before the pace of the day picked up.
First Look and West Coast Wilderness Lodge Portraits
One of the reasons we love working in venues like West Coast Wilderness Lodge is the variety available right on the property. We photographed the couple near the cabins, then took them along a quiet forest path, a covered walkway and out on the decks overlooking the inlet. This is all within a short walk of one another.
The forest gave us a more secluded, natural look for their portraits, while the decks offered the expansive scenery that makes this a standout BC oceanfront wedding venue. This balance between rugged wilderness and refined lodge spaces is what makes the venue such a strong fit for couples who want scenic wedding photos without spending hours away from their guests.
An Ocean-View Wedding Ceremony
Their outdoor ceremony took place on the lodge deck, with the inlet stretching out behind them as their guests gathered close. The beautiful weather brought clear skies and an expansive view of the surrounding landscape, creating a breathtaking backdrop for their emotional ceremony.
Having two photographers was especially valuable during this part of the day. Lauren stayed close to the ceremony, capturing guests walking down the aisle, the groom’s reaction, and the intimate moments between the couple. Will photographed from higher decks and inside the lodge, creating wider images of the bride walking down the aisle with the venue, guests, and ocean views all in the frame.
This is one of the reasons we love photographing weddings together. A single photographer can capture the close reactions or step away to find the larger scene, but two photographers allow us to document both perspectives without risking missed moments.
Champagne, Cocktails, and Family Photos
After the ceremony, guests were welcomed with champagne by the lodge staff, such a thoughtful touch and a wonderful beginning to cocktail hour. Everyone then moved to the covered secondary deck beside the reception space, where they enjoyed custom cocktails and mingled with friends and family.
While the guests celebrated, we photographed family portraits and wedding-party photos efficiently, keeping everyone close to the action. We also took a few more minutes with the couple for portraits from another angle of the inlet, making the most of the changing light before the reception began.
Reception Views and an Unforgettable Dinner
The reception took place inside the lodge, where massive windows kept the ocean and surrounding landscape visible throughout dinner and speeches. The space felt warm and inviting while still carrying through the atmosphere of this Sunshine Coast wedding.
The meal was genuinely unforgettable, a salmon steak served over beef that we still think about to this day. After dinner and speeches, everyone returned to the covered balcony for cake cutting and dessert, giving guests the freedom to either relax at their tables or continue mingling outdoors with the views.
Sunset First Dance on the Patio
The couple planned their first dance on the patio at sunset, surrounded by their guests, and the timing could not have been better. The light softened over the inlet as they performed their coordinated first dance, creating some of our favourite images from the day.
Their mother–daughter and father–son dances followed, with everyone gathered close in a circle and celebrating together. Afterward, we stole the couple away one final time for sunset portraits, a quiet, beautiful way to close out such an incredible wedding day.
