Some weddings are truly unforgettable, and this one is going down as one of our all-time favourites. We had the incredible opportunity to photograph this amazing couple’s wedding at St. Augustine’s Church and The Vancouver Club, with preparations at the elegant Sutton Place Hotel. From laughter-filled moments to one truly unexpected celebrity encounter, this day had everything.
Getting Ready at the Sutton Place Hotel
We started the morning documenting the couple as they got ready at the beautiful Sutton Place Hotel, one of Vancouver’s most iconic wedding prep locations. The bride had her hair and makeup expertly done by The Love Team by Coa, while the groom and his groomsmen enjoyed some laughs and a few calm moments before the big day.
Their first look took place in the hotel, a moment filled with pure emotion and excitement. The groom’s reaction said everything. And just when we thought the day could not get any better, we had a celebrity encounter! As we wrapped up portraits in the hotel restaurant, Aaron Paul (yes, Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul) jumped up from his table to congratulate the newlyweds and even posed for a photo with them. Definitely a once in a lifetime moment.
Portraits Around Stanley Park and Beyond
Following the excitement at Sutton Place, we headed to Stanley Park, a favourite Vancouver engagement and wedding portrait location. We stopped by the lighthouse for some dramatic coastal shots and found an incredible forest setting lined with ferns and one of the largest trees we have ever seen in Stanley Park.
The ceremony was held at the historic St. Augustine’s Church in Vancouver, known for its stunning architecture and warm atmosphere. One of our favourite moments was when the groom teared up seeing his partner walk down the aisle, an unforgettable emotional highlight. After the ceremony, we captured a few classic portraits inside the church before heading downtown for more creative shots around the Marine Building and nearby city streets.
A Disney Themed Celebration at The Vancouver Club
The reception took place at the elegant Vancouver Club, transformed into a romantic Disney inspired celebration. Centrepieces featured a single rose enclosed in glass, while tables were adorned with magical quotes from Disney movies.
The décor was beautifully crafted by their friend and day of coordinator, Marion Buan, with floral designs by Josie Salvella. The stunning cake came from Cakes n Sweets Bakery, and the guests were treated to Krispy Kreme doughnut favours, a fun and delicious touch.
A Night Full of Entertainment
This wedding reception was truly action packed. Highlights included a Polynesian dance performance by the bride and friends, lively hosting by Mike Oulten from ACDJ Vancouver, and hilarious games like a blindfolded dance off that had guests cheering.
One of the most memorable details was a life size cutout of one of the groom’s best friends who could not attend because he was fighting BC wildfires. That cardboard stand in somehow made its way into nearly every scene, from the bar to the dance floor, and became a hilarious part of the night.
When the dance floor opened, the energy was electric. We captured laughter, music, and motion that perfectly embodied the couple’s fun-loving personalities.
A Day We Will Never Forget
From emotional first looks to spontaneous celebrity encounters and a non-stop celebration at The Vancouver Club, this wedding had it all. It was an honour to document such a joy-filled day from start to finish.
