Sometimes the most unforgettable wedding days come together in the shortest amount of time.
This couple originally contacted us about photographing a small park elopement. As they thought more about the kind of experience they wanted, their plans changed. They wanted something adventurous, private, and completely unforgettable.
They wanted epic.
Just two days before their helicopter flight, they reached out to see if we were available to photograph their Squamish helicopter elopement. It may have been the fastest booking we have ever had. Thankfully, we were available, and two days later we were on our way to the heli pad in Squamish.
For couples dreaming of something beyond a traditional wedding venue, a helicopter elopement offers an incredible combination of privacy, adventure, and truly unforgettable scenery.
A Helicopter Elopement in Squamish
Snow was one of the biggest priorities for this elopement. They wanted wedding photographs that felt distinctly British Columbian, with alpine views, dramatic mountain peaks, and a true winter setting.
They chose to fly with No Limits Heli Adventures, and their pilot brought everyone up to Tantalus Ridge for the ceremony and portraits. No Limits Heli Adventures offers scenic helicopter experiences in the Sea to Sky region, with access to remote alpine terrain and unforgettable mountain views.
The flight itself is an incredible part of the experience. Within minutes, the landscape changes from the Squamish valley below to snow-covered peaks above. Then suddenly, you are stepping out onto a mountaintop surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery British Columbia has to offer.
Squamish is part of British Columbia’s spectacular Sea to Sky region, known for dramatic mountain ranges, forests, glaciers, and alpine views. For couples who want a wedding day that feels adventurous and connected to the outdoors, it is one of the most incredible places to elope near Vancouver. Vows at Tantalus Ridge
Once we landed at Tantalus Ridge, the view was unreal.
Snow-covered mountains stretched out in every direction, creating a backdrop that felt like it would never end. There were no crowds, no venue walls, and no distractions. Just the couple, the crisp mountain air, and an incredible alpine landscape.
They exchanged their vows surrounded by snow and rugged mountain terrain. It was intimate and completely true to the kind of wedding day they wanted to create.
One of the things we love most about photographing a Vancouver elopement is that even the most dramatic setting can still feel deeply personal. The mountain views are epic, but the focus always comes back to the couple, the promises they are making, and the experience they are sharing together.

Playful Mountain Wedding Portraits
After the short ceremony, we had about 45 minutes on top of the mountain to explore and create portraits.
We moved around the ridge to find the best snow, open mountain views, and dramatic backdrops. Every direction offered something different, from rugged peaks to wide alpine landscapes and soft snow-covered areas that were perfect for portraits.
These two were so much fun to photograph. They were playful, relaxed, and fully present with each other. The laughter, the excitement after the ceremony, and the quiet moments in between made the experience feel even more meaningful.
That is always our goal as photographers: creating beautiful images while helping couples feel comfortable enough to simply enjoy their day. The best photographs often happen when you are not worrying about the camera and are able to focus on the person standing beside you.
Squamish is an incredible place for couples who want dramatic scenery and an adventurous wedding-day experience without travelling too far from Vancouver. You can see more local stories, venues, and inspiration on our Squamish wedding photographer page.

What to Wear for a Helicopter Elopement
If you are planning a Squamish helicopter elopement or mountain wedding, one of the most important things to consider is your footwear.
We always recommend running shoes, trail shoes, hiking shoes, or hiking boots with good grip. Mountaintop locations are natural, rugged, and often uneven. Depending on the season, you may be walking through snow, across loose rock, or over wet and uneven terrain.
Proper footwear helps you move safely and comfortably once you are on the mountain. It also gives you more freedom to explore the location, which means a better overall experience and more variety in your wedding photographs.
Many helicopter companies also require suitable footwear for alpine landings and rugged terrain. If you have heels, dress shoes, or another pair of shoes you would love for a few photos, bring them along for a quick portrait moment. For the flight and exploring the mountain, though, comfortable footwear should always come first.

Choosing Digital Wedding Photos
For their collection, this couple chose digital photographs.
Digital images were the best fit for this season of their lives. They could easily access, share, and revisit their images from wherever they are, while keeping the memories of their elopement close.
There is no single right way to preserve wedding photographs. Some couples choose a handcrafted wedding album, while others prefer the flexibility of a digital collection. What matters most is having meaningful photographs that bring you back to the feeling of your wedding day.
