Adam is a figure skater, Crystal is a dancer, and the two met years ago at a Sunday night swing dance event. Crystal thought he was out of her league, he knew she was special from the start and pursued her passionately. He took her to Aldergrove skating rink and showed her his skills on the ice for their first date. The attendant saw his professional skates, left Adam with the keys to lock up, and they had the place to themselves for the night. The next hour was Adam showboating his skills and air-guitaring down the ice, and right then Crystal knew she couldn’t resist his charm, and they started dating. Fast forward a couple years, he took her to Stars on Ice downtown, and proposed to her right before the show. Crystal’s favourite childhood memory was watching Kurt Browning skating to Gene Kelly’s “singing in the rain”, and that night she got to see him do it again, and with the proposal it was one of the most romantic and favourite moments of her life.
When we photograph a wedding, we get the opportunity to get to know our couples and their story. Some people tell us a little about them, others tell us a lot, and it’s pretty damn sweet to hear their story. Crystal and Adam were married at Port Kells Church in Surrey, and had a Christian ceremony. They had a traditional first look down the aisle, and Adam’s reaction to seeing his bride was priceless. He was in tears, and later told us she was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen in his entire life. They did an old Scottish tradition of handfasting during the ceremony, and had so many guests in tears as they said their vows. After the ceremony, they wanted Golden Ears Park Alouette Lake wedding photos because it’s one of their favourite parks. We love that park! It’s hard to get a bad photo in that location with Alouette Lake, huge trees, ferns, and mountains as a backdrop. Their reception was at a hall at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Langley. The decor was a nerd theme. All of their tables were named after things from their favourite videogames and movies. The music was also instrumental renditions of everything nerdy they loved.
The best way to wrap up their wedding story is with a quote from the bride.
“It’s been a true nerdy adventure, with obstacles, surprises, and roadblocks, but fighting through everything, there is the wedding and the hero gets his princess”. – Crystal
Crystal and Adam, thank you for letting us into your lives and sharing so much with us. Your wedding was beautiful, you two were amazing to work with, you are true romantics, and we are so happy you chose us to photograph such a special day! – Lauren
