Quality Photography Experience That Is Different.

This Brackendale Art Gallery wedding in Squamish was a celebration rooted in community, creativity, and a relaxed West Coast atmosphere. From the start, the focus was on people and presence, creating a day that felt meaningful, unstructured, and true to who they are.

Brackendale Art Gallery: Café & Culture Centre is one of those venues that feels distinct the moment you arrive. Tucked into the Squamish Valley, it blends rustic character with artistic detail, creating a space that feels both intimate and expressive.

For this wedding, the garden hosted the ceremony, surrounded by greenery and subtle architectural quirks. Cocktail hour moved upstairs into the gallery and patio, where guests wandered between artwork inside to the patio overlooking the forest and mountains. The reception was held downstairs in a cozy restaurant-style space, with long tables and a layout that encouraged connection while still feeling open.

What stands out most about this venue is its flow. Each level offers a different experience, and every corner feels intentional, something that lends itself naturally to a storytelling approach.

Forest Portraits Steps from the Venue

We began the day with portraits before the ceremony, which is one of our favourite ways to ease into the timeline. With no wedding party, the focus stayed on the couple and their families, keeping everything relaxed and grounded.

Just steps from the gallery, there was a forested park, which had no one around and provided a perfect start to their day with a quiet, atmospheric setting with towering trees and soft, diffused light. It’s an ideal option for couples who want that West Coast feel without adding travel time to the day.

We also folded family photos into this portion, keeping things efficient while still allowing for genuine, unhurried interactions.

Mountain Views Nearby

From the forest, we made a quick trip to Brackendale Eagles Provincial Park for a second portrait location. It’s a great option for couples who want mountain views without committing to a long drive.

The park was busy, especially on a summer weekend, but with a bit of coordination, we made it work. I dropped Will off to start shooting, and a kind security guard let me pause at the entrance briefly. With a bit of scouting, we found a pocket that felt quiet and removed, allowing the photos to feel like we had the space to ourselves.

Using off-camera lighting helped us shape the light and maintain consistency, even in open, bright conditions. Together, the forest and mountain locations created a balanced set of portraits that feel very true to the Sea to Sky landscape.

A Personal, Community-Driven Ceremony

The ceremony in the garden felt deeply personal. Instead of walking in together, the couple approached from opposite sides and met at the front, a simple but meaningful choice that set the tone.

Friends played a central role throughout. One performed live music, another officiated, and the vows moved seamlessly between heartfelt and lighthearted. With most of the guest list made up of close friends, the energy felt less like a formal ceremony and more like a shared experience.

We approached this part of the day with a photojournalistic mindset, focusing on reactions, small moments, and the connections happening throughout the space. You can see more of this approach in our wedding photography portfolio.

After the ceremony, guests moved upstairs into the gallery and patio. This part of the venue is perfect for candid moments, with art-lined walls, layered spaces, and natural gathering points that keep everything visually dynamic.

The couple curated a set of cocktails, and the atmosphere settled into something relaxed and social. Conversations flowed easily, and there was always something happening, whether inside the gallery or out on the patio.

We worked primarily with available light here, stepping in with off-camera flash where needed to maintain a natural, consistent look.

A Moody, Intimate Reception

The reception took place downstairs, where the tone shifted into something more intimate and atmospheric. Long tables filled the space, and while the room was divided into sections, it still felt connected.

This is where lighting becomes especially important. In lower-light environments, thoughtful off-camera lighting allows us to preserve the mood while still capturing clean, vibrant images.

We also used the upper balcony for a different perspective, capturing speeches, reactions, and the overall energy of the room from above.

Throughout dinner, the focus stayed on real moments, quiet conversations, bursts of laughter, and the way the couple moved through the space, connecting with their guests.

Dance Floor Energy and a Night Portrait

Originally, dance floor coverage wasn’t part of the plan, but the couple decided to extend on the day, and it completely transformed the ending of the story.

Once the music started, the space came alive. The energy built quickly, with a packed dance floor, fun lighting, sing-alongs, and a crowd fully leaning into the moment.

To wrap the night, we stepped outside for one final portrait, a simple, dramatic image that tied everything together and brought the day to a close.

Kind Words

“Working with Will & Lauren was a dream. From the initial meeting, they were organized and professional, helping us walk through how to get the most out of their services. On the day, they made us feel comfortable and relaxed for our couple photos (which look AMAZING!) before disappearing into the background for the rest of the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dance floor, allowing us to enjoy the evening with friends. When they sent us the photos from the wedding, we were blown away by the moments they were able to capture. The emotion, the composition, and the lighting were perfect. All while we had practically forgotten that they were there. It’s been an amazing experience working with them. While originally we were unsure about booking a photographer, Will & Lauren made it easy for us to feel confident in our choice. 10/10 would recommend.”
